Dua Lipa criticised over Israel Instagram post referencing ‘fake’ Jews

British pop star Dua Lipa has come under criticism after reportedly sharing an Instagram post which referred to Israelis in government as “fake” Jews.
The post, first published by another user on Sunday, has been taken down after appearing as an Instagram story on the 24-year-old star’s official account, which counts some 46.4 million followers.
The post included photographs appearing to show Israeli security forces detaining Palestinian minors.
“While everybody’s in the mood to talk about human rights, this is what happens EVERYDAY in Palestine,” it began in an apparent reference to recent mass protests over the treatment of a black man in the US, who died in police custody after an officer kneeled on his neck.
Halfway down the 336-word caption, the post read: “The government which they hold no right to vote, a government which suffocates them socially, economically, and of course physically.
“Yet, the only ‘justification’ as to why they don’t deserve freedom is because ‘Hamas calls for the destruction of Israel.’
“Which is utterly HYSTERICAL bc the United States (fake Christians in the mid west) and Israel (fake Jewish ppl in the Israeli government) created Hamas SIMPLY for all of you geniuses to believe that hamas is the reasons for the decades worth of occupation, oppression, ethnic cleansing, and MURDER.”
The caption later read: “To my dear Jewish friends and family, I love you all. This has NOTHING to do with you or religion, and all to do with justice and freedom.”
The Jewish Journal columnist Hen Mazzig was among those on social media calling on Dua Lipa to take down the since-removed post.
Lipa, who grew up in north London, rose to fame in 2015 with her debut track “New Love”.
Her representatives have been contacted for comment.
