Edinburgh House residential home planning major move and modernisation
A well-known Jewish residential home for the elderly said this week that it was “in urgent need of updating and modernising” and that it was planning a major move to more modern premises.
Manager at Edinburgh House in Wembley, which has a 250-year history linked to the Spanish and Portuguese Jewish community, told how they were at the beginning of a “5-7 year” project but that funding was still needed.
“While the home is much loved and valued by its residents, the accommodation and facilities are in urgent need of updating and modernising,” said manager Paula Peake.
“The Trustees have investigated the feasibility of rebuilding on the current site, and are looking at the potential to relocate Edinburgh House to a new build home closer to the heart of the community.”
Edinburgh House began life in 1747 as a hospital in Mile End Road, set up by the Spanish and Portuguese Community for medical care of the community’s poor. In 2010 there was a £350,000 refurbishment, which brought all daytime facilities onto the ground floor.
