Eli Sharabi ‘Hostage’ memoir a bestseller in UK and USA
A week after its release, book reaches top of both New York Times and Sunday Times lists
A powerful memoir by hostage survivor Eli Sharabi has soared to the top of international best-seller charts in London and New York just a week after publication.
‘Hostage’, which recounts Sharabi’s 491 days in Hamas captivity and the murder of his wife and two daughters in the 7 October 2023 attack, has reached No. 4 on the New York Times bestseller list and number ten on the UK bestseller list.
He sent sent President Trump a copy of his new book with a note saying: “Dear President Trump, Thank you for securing my release. I am forever and eternally grateful. Your actions have given me back my freedom, my life”.
Translated by Eylon Levy, the English edition of the book was published by HarperCollins, with additional translations expected to follow.
Sharabi said: “Reaching international bestseller status is both humbling and profoundly moving. This milestone is not mine alone — it belongs to every reader and to everyone who has supported this journey. I am deeply grateful to the international community for embracing my story with such open hearts and compassion.
“My thoughts remain with the families still waiting for their loved ones. We cannot rest until every hostage is back.”
Released in Hebrew earlier this year, ‘Hostage’ became Israel’s bestselling book, with more than 100,000 copies sold.
