Elon Musk to donate X ad revenues to Israeli hospitals and Gaza aid groups
Announcement made on his site comes after a catalogue of major brands pulled their ads over claims they appeared next to pro-Nazi content
X owner Elon Musk will donate advertising and subscription revenue to Israeli hospitals as well as to Red Cross and Red Crescent medical crews in the Gaza Strip.
Musk posted on his site: “X Corp will be donating all revenue from advertising & subscriptions associated with the war in Gaza to hospitals in Israel and the Red Cross/Crescent in Gaza.
The announcement came a day after X launched a lawsuit against media watchdog Media Matters, after it reported that adverts on the site had been placed alongside content promoting Nazis, prompting an exodus of major brands, who pulled ads from the site.
Asked how he would ensure that the donated money “won’t end up in Hamas’s hands”, Musk responded: “We will track how funds are spent and go through Red Cross/Crescent. Better ideas are welcome. We should care about the innocent regardless of race, creed, religion or anything else.”
“Better ideas are welcome.”
Musk added that people “should care about the innocent regardless of race, creed, religion or anything else.”
Musk, who bought X in October, faced an outbreak of criticism for endorsing a virulently antisemitic tweet which accused the “Jewish community” of pushing “dialectical hatred” against white people. Musk agreed with the post, stating: “You have said the actual truth.”
