Erlich through to men’s doubles third round
Yoni Erlich is through to the third round of the men’s doubles competition after he and Philipp Petzschner recorded a straight sets win on Thursday evening.
Up against American Jewish player Scott Lipsky and Treat Huey from the Philippines, the Israeli-German duo broke early in the first set, and never looked back, winning it 6-3.
However, both the second and third sets were much closer affairs. They won the second set 7-5, though only after Erlich, on serve, saved a set point. And the trick was repeated in the third, though on this occasion it was Petzschner who saved two break points, before wrapping up the match in the tiebreak – 7-3 – much to the delight of Erlich who celebrated the win with his former partner Andy Ram.
The pair next face Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner and New Zealander Marcus Daniell for a place in the quarter-finals.
