Ex-UJS president to take top job at World Union of Jewish Students
The former president of the Union of Jewish Students is set to take the top job at the World Union of Jewish Students, after his move to Israel.
Manchester student Joe Tarsh, who has now changed his name to Yosef Tarshish, is standing unopposed for the two-year fixed-term position, which starts in January and is based in Jerusalem.
Tarshish, who led UJS in 2012-13, will be the sixth British chair of WUJS, following Scottish past chair Oliver Worth, who took the post in 2010, and Daniel Levy, son of Lord (Michael) Levy, who chaired WUJS in the 90s.
“I set my sights on it early,” he said. “I believe that I have the skill set and the passion to move WUJS forward to achieve much needed global Jewish unity.”
The British union is one of the largest of the 40-member WUJS. It holds 14 votes out of a 180 total and sits on the governing body.
