Labour amends manifesto after Jewish contribution to war effort ignored
Jewish News alerted party to the omission on Thursday after a draft manifesto was reportedly leaked
Labour have amended a section of its manifesto that failed to mention Jews among a list of minorities that fought for Britain in the First World War, Jewish News understands.
It read: “We will continue to mark the ongoing centenary of the First World War, and the sacrifice of all those who died. Labour remains committed to honouring the role of !Ill who have served our country, including the Sikh, Hindu and Muslim soldiers who fought for Britain.” But there was no mention of the Jewish personnel, who numbered a staggering 40,000.
Senior party figures, including members of the shadow cabinet and national executive committee, today met to finalise the manifesto – and its believed the final version will include explicit mention of the Jewish contribution to the war effort.
