Fire at kosher falafel restaurant in Golders Green
Emergency services and Jewish volunteer group Shomrim attend scene after blaze breaks out at Taboon
Emergency services have been called after a fire was reported at the Taboon falafel restaurant in Golders Green.
Video footage posted online shows London Fire Brigade staff attending the scene, to put out the blaze.
Shomrim North West London volunteer responders told Jewish News they “attended and assisted with the immediate crowd evacuation and crowd control so that cordons could be established”.
The Community Security Trust said: “Fire this evening at Taboon restaurant in Golders Green is confirmed as NOT suspicious”, whilst other eyewitnesses claimed the fire was due to a fault with a deep fat fryer.
On Twitter, users posted pictures of dark smoke billowing from the popular falafel shop, whilst others thanked the London Fire Brigade for their rapid response. No injuries have been reported.
This comes after a whole section of Golders Green Road, which Taboon is located on, was cut off on Sunday after another devastating fire at Kay’s Deli.
Five people were rescued from flats above the blazing kosher supermarket on Sunday, with 15 firetrucks and more than 90 LFB staff in attendance.
The fire at Kay’s is not thought to be suspicious.
Following the Kay’s Deli fire, members of the Jewish community rallied round those affected, setting up a Facebook group to assist victims, and making donations to fundraising campaigns.
The London Fire Brigade and Police have been asked for updates on the cause of the fire.
Jewish communities across London also reached out to help the dozens of families affected by a fire that engulfed a 24-storey building in West London. Grenfell Tower block of flats went up in flames in the early hours of Wednesday, with 12 people confirmed dead so far.
Nearby synagogue Holland Park shul sent an appeal to its members, urging the local community to donate items for victims of the disaster.
