Coming up against a team who they knew nothing about, the Lions started the game very slowly and it took them around 15 minutes to really get going.
However, once they started playing football, they pulled them apart, creating a number of gaps within their backline which they exploited around 20 minutes into the game. A wonderful ball floated by David Cohen fell to Gershfield who volleyed home.
The Lions were totally in control of the game until a defensive slip allowed their number 10, who controlled the last 20 minutes of the half, produce a remarkable hat-trick with three goals.
Much to the frustration of manager Joe Marsh, which led to a heated half-time team talk, the boys responded superbly after the break.
Five minutes after the restart, Gershfield latched onto a through ball to coolly slot home, and two minutes later, drew the Lions level with a similar effort.
With the momentum suddenly back in the home side’s favour, another two quick goals form Gershfield saw them go 5-3 ahead, and the Weston heads dropped.
Dom Chenairt headed home their sixth after a great passage of play, with Gershfield taking home the Man-of-the-Match award for his five goals. There was also praise for David Cohen, Richard Gold and Joey Lazare who all produced top performances.
