Four Israeli universities named among world’s best
Four Israeli universities have made it into the 2013 Top 100 Universities in the world list, which was unveiled on Monday, writes Debra Green.
The Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR) countdown reflects university performances on a worldwide scale, measuring student performance, the quality of the education they receive combined with the prestige of faculty members and research. Seven objective indicators then establish a ranking for the top 100 universities in the world.
The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is the top Israeli campus, ranked 21st in the world, ahead of the UK’s University College of London and Imperial College. Oxford and Cambridge universities came in at 3rd and 5th respectively.
Nigel Salomon, Chief Executive of the British Friends of Hebrew University commented on the impressive rankings saying: “We are pleased about this result which reflects The Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s world class academia & research along with strong technology transfer capabilities”.
Other Israeli universities to make the list were the Weizmann Institute of Science (number 33), Tel Aviv University (number 57) and the Technion Israel Institute of Technology (number 66).
Daniel Peltz, Chair of Technion UK said: “We are delighted that The Centre for World University Rankings has ranked Technion 66th out of the top 100 universities for 2013. We are so proud of all the Technion’s achievements to date and we could not be happier that their excellent academic ability and results have been recognised in this way.”
