Fritz through to junior boy’s semi-finals at Wimbledon
Taylor Fritz overcame his toughest match yet on Thursday afternoon as he booked his place in the semi-finals of the junior boy’s tournament.
Having not dropped a set in his opening three matches, the American, who’s the top seed in the tournament, looked as if he’d be reapeating the feat against his Korean opponent Yunseong Chung, when he won the first set 6-2 in just 25 minutes.
However, the 11th seed bounced back in the second set, breaking Fritz twice in his first two service games to establish a 3-0 lead. Fritz did break back once, but the Korean held his serve thereon in to take the second set 6-4 and set up a decider.
However, as was the case with the first set, Fritz turned it into a one-sided affair, securing a break of his own in the first game, which ultimately deflated Chung, as the American cruised to take the set 6-0. Fritz next faces fellow American Reilly Opelka for a place in the final.
Fritz will be in action again later on Thursday when he and American Michael Mmoh contest their second round boy’s doubles match against German Tim Sandkaulen and Hungarian Mate Valkusz.
Two Israelis are also due on court later on Thursday. Yoni Erlich is third on centre court when he and German Philipp Petzschner will be looking to book their place in Saturday’s final of the Men’s Doubles, take on the 13th seeds, GB’s Jamie Murray and Australian John Peers.
Junior Yshia Oliel is looking to book his place in the third round of the boy’s doubles, when and China’s Yibing Wu take on Norwegian Viktor Durasovic and Fin Patrik Niklas-Salminen.
