Giorgi & Lipsky win opening Wimbledon matches
Italian Camila Giorgi is safely through to the second round of the women’s singles competition at Wimbledon.
Beating Brazilian Teliana Pereira in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3, on Tuesday evening, she next faces Spaniard Lara Arruabarrena, which is set to take place on Thursday.
American Scott Lipsky won his opening men’s doubles round match on Wednesday afternoon, after he and Treat Huey from the Philippines, beat the 12th seeds, Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas and Spaniard David Marrero, 7-6, 6-2,6-4. They will next face Israeli Yoni Erlich and German Philipp Petzschner.
Further Israeli interest at SW19 could see Yishai Oliel competing in the junior tournament, providing he wins his final qualifier.
