Global poll shows one in four hold anti-Semitic views

A huge poll of 53,000 people in over 100 countries has shown that anti-Semitism is alive and well in 2014.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) survey found that one in four polled held anti-Semitic attitudes and that half had little or no knowledge of the Holocaust.

Over 26 percent answered “probably true” to more than half the negative stereotypes listed about Jews.

“For the first time we have a real sense of how pervasive and persistent anti-Semitism is today around the world,” said outgoing ADL chief Abe Foxman (pictured).

“We can now identify hotspots, as well as countries and regions of the world where hatred of Jews is essentially non-existent,” he said.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the highest level of anti-Semitism was found in the West Bank and Gaza, where 93 percent of people surveyed held hateful views.

By contrast, anti-Semitism was virtually non-existent in several countries, the least being in the South East Asian state of Laos, where only 0.2 percent of people held anti-Semitic views.

More shockingly, only 54 percent had ever heard of the Holocaust, with two out of every three people surveyed having either never heard of the Holocaust or dubious that the historical account was accurate.
