GMC opens investigation into Lewisham GP and Green Party councillor
Vegan blogger Dr Rebecca Jones published series of social media posts attacking Israel, Zionists and Israelis
The General Medical Council, the regulatory body for doctors and medical education in the UK, has opened a formal investigation into Lewisham GP and Green Party councillor Dr Rebecca Jones, after UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) raised concerns about a series of social media posts attacking Israel, Zionists and Israelis.
Jones, a vegan blogger, was one of 39 Greens to win a council seat in Lewisham in May’s local elections, receiving 1,890 votes and coming first out of 15 candidates.
Her social media posts include claims that “I’ve yet to see a Zionist act in kindness or with love and compassion”, with The Spectator and online investigator GnasherJew discovering she had shared posts that claimed Israel is “using infectious diseases to help their genocidal onslaught” and stating, “They’re burning babies again.”
Many of the social media posts linked to by The Spectator appear to have been subsequently deleted or hidden.
In response to the GMC’s investigation, Jones wrote that she was “in good company”, referencing “wonderful doctors” including British-Palestinian Dr Ghassan Abu Sitta, the rector of the University of Glasgow, (who was let off by the Medical Practitioner Tribunal Service in January 2026 after it claimed that charges he had supported terrorism were “not proved”. The GMC has appealed the ruling) and British-Jordanian Dr Nadeem Crowe, who alleges the Royal Free Hospital discriminated against him after complaints about pro-Palestinian social media posts.
Posting on her Facebook page, Jones claimed the GMC is “being used to censor and silence doctors who speak out against Israel’s genocidal regime”, and alleged that fellow doctors are being “kidnapped, tortured and killed because of their profession”, adding that she is fighting for justice “in this upside-down world where right is wrong, killing children is self-defence, and destroying hospitals and performing surgery without anaesthetic is acceptable.”
Previously she has written: “I’ve often said that Zios seem to use doublethink and doublespeak a lot… I’m still amazed by the way they, the media and the colonialists try to make us believe that anti-zionism [is]….extreme. There’s only one side showing hate here, and it’s definitely not from this love-filled, vegan anarchist.”
As previously reported by Jewish News, “Zios” is a term popularised by the far-right, most notably by the former Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, David Duke. The overwhelming majority of Jews in the UK and worldwide identify as Zionists.
Jones has also called on people to ‘burn Zionism to the ground’, described Bob Vylan’s chant at Glastonbury, ‘Death, death to the IDF’’ as ‘amazing’ and posted support for Palestine Action, a proscribed terror organisation in the UK.
