Group will ‘transform’ pro-Israel advocacy with new site
We Believe In Israel will offer a host of new online resources to allow pro-Israel activists to advocate better
Advocates from grassroots group ‘We Believe in Israel’ say they will “transform the world of pro-Israel campaigning” with the launch of their new website.
A host of online resources such as toolkits, flyers, multimedia materials and campaign links will “allow activists to join the fight for Israel from the comfort of their smartphones,” the group said on Tuesday.
“This will transform our campaigns and transform our organisation,” said We Believe director Luke Akehurst. “Our new campaigning tools will give pro-Israel activists across the country the chance to raise concerns about these sorts of issues quickly, and allow them to be raised directly with the people in charge.”
The group, which supports a two-state solution and advocates for an approach of dialogue and conversation “as a surer strategy than confrontation,” this week said it was launching its new website with a protest against Hezbollah flag-waving.
It follows scenes from the Al-Quds Day march in central London earlier this month, in which Hezbollah flags were waved on the streets without arrest.
Akehurst said he was “mobilising activists to write to London Mayor Sadiq Khan, asking him to raise the issue with the Metropolitan Police to ensure that action is taken action against offenders”.
The Home Office has said those waving Hezbollah’s flag must demonstrate that they are supporting the group’s armed wing, which is proscribed, and not the political wing, which is not – an obvious difficulty, since the two wings share the same flag.
“The display of clear support for Hezbollah has caused deep distress and alarm to the Jewish community, said Akehurst, adding that he believed possession of Hezbollah flag to be a criminal offence.
“That their flag and insignia were freely flown at an anti-Israel march on the streets of London is beyond belief. The Police must deal with the offenders as quickly as possible.”
