Happy 105th Birthday Sir Nick!
Sir Nicholas Winton, who saved 669 Jewish children from the Nazis, celebrates his 105th birthday on Monday.
To mark this important milestone, his daughter Barbara has published a moving account of the great man’s heroics – read exclusive extracts here.
Some Birthday greetings from well-wishers to Sir Nick:
David Cameron, Prime Minister
““At the age of only 29, Nicholas Winton showed extraordinary courage, doing whatever it took to rescue more than 600 children. I am proud to be Prime Minister of a country with people like Sir Nicholas in it. I wish him a very happy birthday.”
Ed Balls, MP, Shadow Chancellor
“You have done so much to show the world the power of human courage, determination and selflessness. On your 105th birthday, as a member of the Prime Minister’s Holocaust Commission and on behalf of the Labour Party, I thank you for being a beacon of hope to us all and to wish you a very happy birthday, one we are all proud to celebrate with you.”
Mick Davis, Holocaust Commission Chairman
“Happy birthday to the ‘British Schindler’. His heroic dedication to a rescue mission that saved hundreds of lives is an inspiration and lesson to all of us that, even when faced with overwhelming evil, good people can act and make a difference.”
Natasha Kaplinsky, Broadcaster and member of the Prime Minister’s Holocaust Commission
“We owe much to Sir Nicholas, who worked so selflessly to save so many. His remarkable legacy is the hundreds of orphans, and children of parents forced to make a desperate choice, who survived as a result of his actions. Happy birthday Sir Nicholas.”
