Heir hello! Israeli fan breaks protocol to congratulate Charles on Spurs win
Prince of Wales was visiting Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin, which aims to unite young Arab and Israeli musicians, when he was approached by the enthusiastic football fan
The Prince of Wales was patted on the arm by an enthusiastic Israeli football fan congratulating him on Spurs’ victory in the Champions League, during his tour of Germany.
Before heading to Munich, the Prince spent his third day in the country visiting the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin, which aims to unite young Arab and Israeli musicians, and listened to a short recital by the students.
After the recital, Charles met the musicians and thanked them for their performance, before speaking to a violinist from the quartet, David Strongin, from Israel.
He confidently put his hand on the prince’s shoulder and congratulated him for Tottenham Hotspur’s win against Ajax on Wednesday evening.
The 25-year-old said to the prince: “Congratulations on the English team’s victory last night.”
The Prince responded: “Oh you’re a football fan are you?”
Mr Strongin, who told the prince he was from Tel-Aviv, Israel, said: “Yes, I support Liverpool.”
Charles replied: “Wow, how did you end up supporting them? Amazing.”
Before the exchange, the prince commented on how he had once been taught the cello by Daniel Barenboim.
Addressing the cello player in the quartet, Killian White, from Dublin, Ireland, Charles said: “I played very badly, unlike you.”
On his visit, the prince also met with some students from the academy, which is funded by the German government and aims to unite young Arab and Israeli musicians.
