HJPS head ‘delighted’ after school leaps up Ofsted rankings from Inadequate to Good

The head of a Jewish primary school in Radlett is “delighted” after leaping up the Ofsted rankings from Inadequate to Good.
In a report published today, Hertsmere Jewish Primary School was praised by inspectors for providing “a happy and inclusive culture”, as well as placing “the safety and well-being of staff and pupils at the forefront of the school’s work.”
Ofsted inspectors, who visited the school on 5 and 6 March, also described the “vibrant ‘buzz’ and community spirit”, while arrangements for safeguarding were deemed “effective”.
There was also praise for the “ambitious curriculum” set by the school, with youngsters learning phonics in early years and becoming “fluent and enthusiastic readers”, though inspectors noted “there is even more to do to ensure that all pupils progress well in key stage 2.”
Hertsmere Jewish Primary School (HJPS) was previously downgraded in 2019 after inspectors raised safeguarding concerns over “blurred boundaries” between personal and professional lives at the school, despite rating many other areas as Good.
Their findings led to the school receiving an automatic Academisation Order, with HJPS ultimately becoming a member of the Jewish Community Academic Trust (JCAT).
Headteacher Rita Alak-Levi said: “I am delighted the Ofsted report not only captures our inclusive and vibrant community at HJPS, but also commends us on our ambitious curriculum and pupils’ positive attitudes to learning.
“Hertsmere Jewish Primary School pupils are confident and proud to be themselves, demonstrating high standards of behaviour.
“Additionally, our safeguarding processes and policies for all our children were judged as effective. I am very pleased with the inspectors’ outcomes.”
Chair of Governors Judy Greenberg said the latest Ofsted result was a “testament” to the staff, pupils, governors and parents “who have worked tirelessly to create what is great about Hertsmere Jewish Primary School.”
