Ice and easy for flying Israeli!
No, we haven’t printed this image the wrong way round! This is Daniel Samohin, flying horizontally off the ground, while claiming a historic gold medal for Israel at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Debrecen, Hungary.
The 18-year-old, who’s based in California, performed his winning routine in the men’s event, to the theme tune from Sherlock Holmes. He said: “I can’t believe this. I’m very happy and very excited. Everyone worked really hard and I’m really happy that I managed to do it.
“There are a lot of great skaters here so I couldn’t be sure that I’d be first. It’s pretty crazy to come from almost 10th place to the top three. It’s really great and for Israel it is amazing.”
