Israel beat World Cup-bound Honduras
Israel claimed a morale-boosting friendly win in the early hours of Monday morning as they beat World Cup-bound Honduras 4-2 in Houston.
Coming into the game on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Mexico on Wednesday, Eran Zahavi opened the scoring in the 34th minute with a 30-yard effort.
Honduras made four changes at the break, and it seemed to pay dividends when Roger Espinoza equalised two minutes after the restart.
However, Israel regained the lead four minutes later when Tal Ben Haim’s shot took a wicked deflection off Maynor Figueroa. Zahavi was involved in the thick of the action again soon after when his shot bounced off the post, but Omer Damari was on hand to put Israel 3-1 up/
It got even better for the Israelis when in the 74th minute when Gil Vermouth found the back of the net, to the delight of the staff on the sideline.
Carlo Costly ended the scoring when he pulled back a late consolation, though the Central Americans were left thoroughly deflated, ahead of their final warm-up game against England at the weekend.
