Israel heading to Scotland for UEFA Nations League decider
Andreas Herzog's side need just a draw to secure top spot in the group and book a play-off spot for the 2020 European Championships.
Israel’s football squad will fly to Glasgow on Sunday afternoon, ahead of Tuesday evening’s crucial UEFA Nations League match – where a draw will see them earn a play-off spot for the 2020 European Championships.
Andreas Herzog’s side sit joint-top of their group, along with the Scots, but having beaten them 2-1 last month, know a draw will be good enough to see them advance, based on their head-to-head meeting.
The Israelis warmed up for Tuesday’s match by thrashing Guatemala 7-0 in a friendly match on Thursday, and will feel confident of getting the draw it needs to seal top spot in the group.
Ahead of the match, Scotland boss Alex McLeish has called on the Tartan Army to pack out Hampden Park for the match. The Scots go into the game on the back of a morale-boosting 4-0 win against Albania on Saturday night, and know any type of win will secure them top spot and a play-off spot for the 2020 European Championship.
He said: “We always try to win so we have set ourselves up as have Israel and it should be a good game.
“We are at home so let’s hope there is a response from the Tartan Army. We’d like the supporters to come to cheer the guys to victory. If we play to that level again then we have a good chance.”
