Israel regain Fed Cup Group status
Israel’s Fed Cup team maintained their status in the Europe/Africa Zone Group I after they defeated Slovenia 2-1 in Budapest.
The victory saw them finish Group C in second place, having also beaten Austria 2-1 following an opening 3-0 loss to Ukraine.
Shahar Peer crucially won her singles matches in Israel’s two victories, while also teaming up with Julia Glushko win the two decisive doubles matches.
She said: “I’m happy we won and I’m very tired. Julia deserves a lot of credit for playing so well in the doubles after a tough singles match earlier in the day. We beat some good teams to finish the pool in second place.
“Our goal was to remain in Group I and it’s excellent that we achieved it.”
