Israel supplied UK with missiles from its emergency stockpile
Israel supplied British forces with missiles from its own emergency stockpile to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2007, a report has revealed, and most likely saved British lives.
News of the surprising military deployment was revealed by Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz this week, with the IDF’s own Tammuz guided missile system supplied because the Israeli manufacturer had earlier ended production.
Israeli armoured personnel carriers even had to be hastily repainted and renamed the Exactor, following the Royal Artillery’s last-minute request.
Britain had asked for the Tammuz because the nature of the threat from al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters meant that HM forces needed a missile capable of quickly striking small, mobile enemy targets.
The British army were so impressed with the missile system’s capability that it subsequently ordered the next generation from manufacturer Rafael.
