Israel to co-host 2017 Eurobasket
Israel will host one of its biggest ever sporting events after they were named as joint-hosts of the 2017 EuroBasket.
The Yad Eliyahu Arena in Tel Aviv will host a Group Phase group between 31 August-5 September 5, as six teams, including Israel, will battle for four places in the knockout rounds of the competition.
Hosting the tournament means the Israelis will be taking part in basketball’s European Championships for the 13th consecutive time.
Coach Erez Edelstein said: “This is a very important day for Israeli basketball and I’m happy to be part of this history.
IBA chairman Amiram Halevy said: “This is a big and important day for Israeli basketball. We waited for this day for a long time and worked very hard to get to it. We intend on hosting a model championships, which will not be forgotten in Europe, and that will make them want to return many times in the future.”
