Israel to require new 14-day isolation for UK travellers
Since the UK’s increase in coronavirus cases its status will change to 'red' from 23 October, while Israel begins to ease restrictions on its second national lockdown
UK travellers to Israel will be required to self-isolate for 14 days on arrival, under new coronavirus rules from Friday.
The UK had been one of 31 “green” countries, from which travellers were exempt from a mandatory quarantine period.
But since the UK’s increase in coronavirus cases its status will change to “red” from 23 October, according to information from Israel’s health ministry, joining some 185 countries – such as the United States, Spain and Sweden – also facing requirements.
Israel began easing its second lockdown on Sunday, allowing day care centres and nurseries to reopen, as well as beaches, parks and nature reserves. A ban on household mixing and a travel limit of 1km from home were also lifted.
According to data from John Hopkins University, Israel has recorded just over 300,000 cases of coronavirus and 2,209 deaths.
