Israeli army discovers another Gaza border tunnel
IDF finds cross-border underground route from southern Gaza into Israeli territory
The Israeli military uncovered a previously unknown cross-border tunnel from southern Gaza.
The tunnel was discovered during construction of an underground barrier around the Gaza border to prevent such tunnels from being built, the IDF said in a statement on Monday.
In 2014, the IDF conducted an operation dedicated to finding and destroying tunnels leading from Gaza into southern Israel and designed to be used to launch attacks on Israeli civilians.
It is not clear if the newly discovered tunnel was recently built or if it was not discovered during the operation five years ago. It is the 18thtunnel between Gaza and Israel to be discovered since the end of the 2014 Gaza war.
The Gaza subterranean border fortification is being built at a cost of about $877 million and is set to be completed by the end of the year.
