Israeli dancer performs as part of Revolution festival in London
Mia Segal trained in Tel Aviv and studied dance and choreography in the UK
London-based Israeli choreographer and dancer Mia Segal will be performing in Revolution, the UK’s largest festival of new choreography.
The festival, which showcases 60 companies across 20 exhilarating nights this month, is a platform for emerging artists. Mia wrote and performs in her piece, titled A Human Touch, on 15 January.
A duet performed by two women, the inspiration comes from Mia’s research as part of her master’s degree at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance. The choreography is about how physical touch is connected to mental health and how we can use it to dissolve a sense of isolation. An intimate piece, a journey of falling into closeness and intimacy, it explores themes of trust, curiosity, vulnerability and hesitation.
“Think of the last time you gave someone a hug. Was it today? Yesterday? Can you even remember?” says Mia. “In a world defined by independence and isolation, we’ve forgotten how to touch. This piece is an invitation to let go, tuning into our innate longing for physical connection – a need that never fades yet is often denied. Through a dynamic conversation of trust, risk, and surrender, we reach beyond comfort into vulnerability, rediscovering what it means to hold and be held.”
The Resolution Festival is at 7 Duke’s Road, WC1H 9PY from 9 – 25 January. A Human Touch is on 15 January. For tickets visit theplace.org and use discount code SEGA
