Jewish Israeli goalkeeper Daniel Peretz has now officially joined Southampton on loan from Bayern Munich, with the 35 year old expected to play for the Championship team for the remainder of the season.

Peretz, who began his professional career at Maccabi Tel Aviv, joined the top German club in 2023 on a 5-year deal, with a previous loan spell to Hamburg ending at the beginning of this year.

In comments posted on Southampton’s social media, Peretz said: “I am really happy to make this move to Southampton. It is a great club in a good league and I’m really looking forward to start already.”

Southampton were relegated from the Premier League last season after 27 consecutive years of top-flight football. They are currently languishing mid-table in the Championship, albeit just 8 points away from clubs currently in the playoff spots which could lead to a promotion.

Perez described Southampton as “a legit Premier League club and I think our goal is to bring it to where it belongs. It will not be easy but we are here to do it, to work hard, to believe. I think it’s important and [will] work every day to achieve it.”

In 2023, Peretz began dating Israeli popstar and actress Noa Kirel, who garnered international fame that year when she represented Israel at the Eurovision song contest, placing third with her song, “unicorn”. The couple got married in November 2025. It is not yet clear whether Kirel will be moving to the UK alongside Peretz.

The only Israeli player to have previously played for Southampton was midfielder Eyal Berkovic, who was at the club during the 1996-1997 season, scoring six goals, including two in a famous 6-3 victory against Manchester United.
