Jewish Black Cab driver launches Uber fightback with all-electric fleet
Asher Moses unveiled the capital's first ever fleet of electric cabs ahead of April’s introduction of the new Ultra-Low Emissions Zone
London taxi-rank king Asher Moses has launched the black cab fightback against Uber and Hailo by unveiling an all-electric fleet for the city’s Zone 1 battleground.
Moses, who recently donated a taxi to help elderly Poles who saved Jews during the Holocaust, launched Londoners’ first-ever fleet of electric black cabs this week, ahead of April’s introduction of the new Ultra-Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ).
The Sherbet RIDE service, which operates via an app, boasts 150 electric black cabs, and Moses said he hoped its introduction would fill a black taxi vacuum created in London’s heart.
“The London black taxi industry has been under siege for two years and I hope today marks the beginning in bringing back the glory days for our trade,” he said.
“No ride-sharing app can compete with customer service offered by a London black taxi, but technology has fractured the market. The introduction of the ULEZ means that the entire industry has to modernise and we hope the launch of Sherbet RIDE will allow black taxi drivers to steal a march on the competition.”
All Sherbet’s drivers, who pass through the company’s Knowledge School in Dalston, will be first-aiders and trained to deal with major incidents and emergencies such as terrorist attacks.
