Jewish charity placed under new management amid finance probe
Interim manager appointed at Beth Yosef Foundation after 'ongoing concerns' about finances.
The charities watchdog has appointed new management to an East London Jewish charity amid ongoing concern over its finances.
The Charity Commission announced last Friday that the new interim management had been brought into the Beth Yosef Foundation while an inquiry is ongoing.
The foundation aims to “advance the Jewish religion, in particular as practised by Sephardi Jews.”
A statutory inquiry was first launched in December 2016 after the regulator “identified a number of serious regulatory concerns relating to the administration and financial management of the charity by the trustees.”
Last week the Commission said it had “ongoing concerns” about the charity, particularly about “financial matters, including potential liabilities and debts, as well as the management of conflicts of interest.”
A statutory inquiry is not in itself a finding of wrong-doing, the regulator has stressed.
