Jews and Muslims take stand against hate with national newspaper adverts
Joint ad campaign by Muslims Against Antisemitism and Jewish Leadership Council urges respectful debate.
Full-page advertisements have been taken out in national newspapers today from Jewish and Muslim organisations in a show of solidarity against hate.
Muslims Against Antisemitism (MAAS) and the Jewish Leadership Council have teamed up to place the adverts in leading British newspapers including The Times and The Mirror, condemning both antisemitism and Islamophobia.
The ad also ran in this week’s Jewish News.
It urges respectful debate amid 267 antisemitic incidents reported in last 17 days many linked to the conflict in Israel and Gaza.
“Jews and Muslims. We’re on the same page,” states the advert.
It adds: “At a time when emotions are running high over the desperate situation in the Middle East, Antisemitism and anti-Muslim hatred are spikingly alarmingly across the world, and across either side of the political divide.
“We accept there’s much to disagree about, whatever side of the argument we sit. Let us disagree without hatred. Let us negotiate in good faith in search of a just solution.”
“This is what the silent majority stand for,” said Muslims Against Antisemitism. “For weeks we have seen the voices of division speak.”
“Jews and Muslims: We’re on the same page”, said the Jewish Leadership Council. “We say no to Antisemitism and to anti-Muslim hate.”
The organisations signed off the advert with ‘shalom’ and ‘salaam’ respectively – words which share the same root meaning ‘peace’.
A previous advertising campaign from Muslims Against Antisemitism calling out anti-Jewish hatred went ‘viral’ when it appeared in the Times and Telegraph.
