JLM asks ‘are we next?’ after Labour Students axed
'This sets a worrying and dangerous precedent,' a Jewish Labour Movement source claimed
Concerns have been raised the Jewish Labour Movement could be “next” after Labour’s ruling body unanimously backed calls to abolish the party’s student wing.
The National Executive Committee approved a motion put forward by the founder of Momentum Jon Lansman calling for a reformed student organisation.
Labour Students denied accusations they had failed to pay affiliation fees on time.
A Jewish Labour Movement source told Jewish News: “This sets a worrying and dangerous precedent. JLM has been affiliated to Labour for almost a century. If they can expel students on such spurious grounds, are we next?”
In a statement issued before the vote, Labour Students said: “This motion is being brought forward as we approach a general election, with no alternative proposals for how the Labour Party organises and engages with students.”
