John Bercow to be first House of Commons Speaker to visit Israel
The Jewish politician who chairs proceedings in the House of Commons will be the first speaker to visit Israel
John Bercow is to become the first Speaker of the House of Commons to pay an official visit to Israel, next week.
The MP will hold talks with his Israeli counterpart Yuli Edelstein and address young political leaders about the UK Parliament and the responsibility of a Speaker.
He will also lay a wreath during a visit to Yad Vashem.
The long-planned trip comes as Bercow faces a vote of no confidence at home over his outspoken comments on Donald Trump. He claimed earlier this week he wouldn’t support a speech by the US President to both chambers because of his past comments about women and minorities .
