Johnson: ‘Astonishing’ Labour didn’t sever McCluskey ties over ‘gold’ remark
Boris Johnson said he is 'genuinely amazed' the Unite leader made the remarks about the Labour's former minister
Boris Johnson said it was “absolutely astonishing” that the Labour Party have not disassociated themselves from union Unite after recent comments made by its boss Len McCluskey.
Last month, Unite secretary general Mr McCluskey was accused of antisemitism after saying that the Labour peer Peter Mandelson should go and “count” his “gold”.
He later apologised for his comments.
Conservative Karl McCartney asked the Prime Minister “what he believes are the views regarding antisemitism, following the recent EHRC report, of the current leader of the opposition”.
Johnson replied: “The only comment I would make on all that was that I was genuinely amazed that the leader of the Unite union should make a remark of the kind that he did and that the Labour Party should remain in receipt of funding from Unite or take no steps to disassociate themselves from that union after that remark.
“I did find it absolutely astonishing.”
