The Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland is the author of several books on politics and history. He co-presents the podcast Unholy with Israeli news anchor and journalist Yonit Levi.A self-proclaimed liberal Zionist, he strongly supports Israel’s right to exist and its security while also being an outspoken critic of many of Benjamin Netanyahu’s governments and their impact on Israeli democracy. He has written extensively about judicial reform, the erosion of democratic institutions, the plight of the hostages and the humanitarian consequences of the Gaza war. He also frequently discusses antisemitism in Britain and the challenges facing Jewish communities worldwide.
Jerusalem-based British Israeli journalist Anshel Pfeffer is the Israel correspondent for The Economist. He is is author of Bibi: The Turbulent Life and Times of Benjamin Netanyahu, regarded as one of the definitive biographies of Israel’s longest-serving prime minister. Pfeffer combines political reporting with deep knowledge of Israel’s military, coalition politics and security establishment. While he is often critical of Netanyahu, his analysis tends to focus less on ideology and more on the mechanics of Israeli politics and how Netanyahu has repeatedly managed to survive politically.
