Labour NEC backs expansion of disciplinary body to tackle antisemitism cases
National Constitutional Committe will double in size from seven to 14 members, in a renewed attempt to improve relations with the community
Labour’s governing body has backed a plan to double the size of its disciplinary committee, to better tackle outstanding cases of antisemitism.
During a National Executive Committee meeting this week, the National Constitutional Committee’s expansion from seven to 14 members was endorsed, according to the Guardian.
This comes after a meeting between Jewish community leaders and Jeremy Corbyn earlier this year, where they highlighted the number of outstanding cases, in addition to key issues such as the party’s adoption of the international definition of antisemitism.
A Labour spokesperson told the Guardian: “Labour’s new general secretary Jennie Formby has made speeding up and strengthening our disciplinary procedures against antisemitism a top priority.
