Labour submits complaint to BBC over Panorama expose
Spokesperson for broadcaster confirms it has received formal objections from the party and will respond "directly in due course".
The Labour Party has submitted a formal complaint to the BBC over its Panorama documentary on antisemitism in the party.
A BBC spokesperson confirmed on Friday: “We have now received a Labour Party complaint about the edition of Panorama we broadcast a fortnight ago, and we will respond directly in due course.”
The programme claimed senior figures, including Jeremy Corbyn’s communications chief Seumas Milne and general secretary Jennie Formby, interfered in antisemitism investigations.
Corbyn has accused the documentary of “many, many, inaccuracies”, saying it adopted a “pre-determined position” before it was aired.
Defending the programme at the time, the BBC said: “We stand by our journalism and completely reject any accusations of bias or dishonesty. The investigation was not pre-determined, it was driven by the evidence.
“The outcome shows the serious questions facing the Labour Party and its leadership on this issue. The programme adhered to the BBC’s editorial guidelines, including contacting the Labour Party in advance of the broadcast for a full right of reply.”
