Jewish Labour stalwart Adam Langleben has been elected onto the party’s highest disciplinary body after attracting sizable support in internal elections.

The executive director of the Progressive Britain organisation, who previously worked at the Jewish Leadership Council, was among three names elected to Labour’s National Constitutional Committee (NCC), which handles serious complaints, including some involving antisemitism.

Langleben’s former Jewish Labour Movement colleague Peter Mason had previously spent years on the NCC before moving to the Labour National Executive Committee (NEC) two years ago.

Langleben, who hosted a successful Progressive Britain reception at Labour conference this week, told Jewish News:”I’m delighted to have been elected to Labour’s top disciplinary body alongside Labour To Win colleagues.

“We know from recent history how important it is for Labour to police its own boundaries on the left and for the expectation of the highest standards for party members.

“My view has always been that being a member of the Labour Party is a responsibility, not a right.”

Chancellor Rachel Reeves was a guest speaker at the Progressive Britain conference event.
