Elisha Levy dropped as manager of Israeli football team
Israeli Football Association confirm they've agreed to part ways with under fire coach after failure to qualify for two major tournaments
Elisha Levy has been dropped as manager of the Israeli national football team – following a string of poor results which saw them fail to qualify for both last year’s European Championships and next summer’s World Cup.
The Israel Football Association released a statement on Sunday, saying it had agreed to part ways with Levy, who was appointed in 2016. It read: “IFA chairman Ofer Eini met national team coach Elisha Levy today and informed him… that he would advise a board meeting on November 8 that (Levy‘s) contract will not be extended.
IFA President Ofer Eini said: “I would like to thank Levy for his work, we had good moments but also bad moments. We will give the next coach all the conditions required for success.”
Levy said: “I had the privilege of coaching the Israeli national team. I have no remorse that I took this honourable and prestigious job. I think it was tough to get better results in this hard group, but I was judged on that.” A replacement has not yet been named, though several names have been linked with post, including Roy Keane
