Line up announced for Jewish News-London Jewish Forum debates
An array of London MPs from across the political spectrum will address Jewish Londoners as part of a new series of forums kicking off this month organised by the London Jewish Forum and media partnered by the Jewish News.
Tottenham MP David Lammy and Shadow Justice Minister Sadiq Khan, who have both been linked to possible runs to be Labour’s candidate for London mayor, are among those taking part in the series.
The Think Jewish London forums – which will include discussion on a range of policy issues affecting London – kicks off on 28 April when Tory Nick de Bois, MP for Enfield North, addresses Jewish Londoners and community leaders in Westminster.
Adrian Cohen, chairman of London Jewish Forum, said: “We are excited to announce this season’s Think Jewish London meetings with politicians whose views are important to the development of public policy.” Others already signed up include Lee Scott (Ilford North), Gareth Thomas (Harrow West), Meg Hillier (Hackney South and Shoreditch).
Lammy, who is also a vice chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on British Jews, said: “I’m pleased to be part of this exciting lecture series. At this time of economic and social challenge, it’s important that we continue to talk about where we want to go as a community, a city and a nation.” Scott added: “I welcome this initiative and thank the London Jewish Forum and Jewish News.”
The events are an extension of the LJF’s work in facilitating dialogue between politicians and the community across areas including welfare and culture.
The series follows the success of the Jewish News’ political Q&A events, for which figures including Nick Clegg, William Hague and Boris Johnson took the hot seat.
