Lions are as good as gold
James Gold scored his third goal in three games as Lions won a controversial game which saw Harmen’s goalkeeper see red.

This was always going to be a feisty encounter, as not only do these two teams not like each other, but there was also a huge amount at stake – Lions seemed to be struggling this season whilst Harmen were flying. And a Lions win was essential for them to push up the table.
Lions started brightly for a change and they might have run up a cricket score before the interval. Harry Franks opened the scoring for Lions with a ball in from Jimmy Goals, and another soon followed when Dan Green bundled the ball over the goalline, referee Myerson had to consult his linesman for confirm the ball crossed the line. Sam Lipton could have scored his first Lions goal from a Will Beresford corner and Matt Green should have scored but got all flustered in the box.
Going into half-time, Lions were looking secure and had yet to really be tested. Adam Kosky at left-back seemed to be forming quite the partnership with Beresford and between them were keeping old Lions player Alex Bowman quiet. Likewise, the midfield duo of Lampert and Rich Gold were winning every challenge and dominating the middle of the park.
Lions third came shortly after half-time when a long ball over the top from Most was to be met by Harmen’s keeper James Castle. Castle, challenged by Jimmy Gold, dropped the ball on the floor where Gold was the first to react and to poke in his third of the season. The Harmen stopper then got into an altercation with a teammate which saw the referee show him a red card.
With Lions 3-0 up and Harmen down to 10 men, it was surely game over. But then Harmen brought on old Lions favourite Lazare and the game came alive. In five minutes of madness, Harmen pulled back two goals through Joey Lazare and James Gershfield and it was squeaky bum time for the Lions faithful.
Fortunately for the Lions, Harmen failed to create another chance and Lions saw out their second league win of the season and a push up the table.
