Luciana Berger faces no-confidence vote over ‘continuous criticism’ of Corbyn
Two motions of no-confidence have been tabled against the embattled Liverpool Wavertree MP
Members of Luciana Berger’s local Labour Party have tabled motions of no-confidence in her, citing concerns over her “continuous criticism” of Jeremy Corbyn.
Two motions have been tabled calling for a vote of no confidence in the Liverpool Wavertree Constituency Labour Party (CLP), According to an article in the Liverpool Echo,
The embattled Labour MP is also facing a meeting called by the CLP this weekend after the motions were tabled.
The first motion states the CLP has no confidence in Berger, adding: “Instead of fighting for a Labour government, our MP is continually using the media to criticise the man we all want to be Prime Minister.”
This comes days after Berger spoke out against antisemitism in Labour and accused the leadership of “going backwards” and of “turning a blind eye” to Jew hatred.
Wes Streeting, the MP for Illford North in Essex, has condemned the motions, saying: “Disgraceful. Motions of solidarity should be brought, not motions of no confidence”.
Adam Langleben, senior member of Jewish Labour Movement, said: “An attack on @lucianaberger is an attack on all Labour Jews.
“I and others will be standing with Luciana all the way. I hope that all Labour members will join us in that solidarity.
“If members deselect any MP due to their opposition to anti-Jewish racism in our party then its over.”
