Maccabi Tel Aviv suffer Greek tragedy in Europa League
Maccabi Tel Aviv are on the verge of being knocked out of the Europa League after they suffered a 2-0 defeat in the first leg of their play-off tie on Thursday evening.
Having already dropped into the Europa League, having been knocked out of the Champions League, the Israeli champions were beaten by Greek side Asteras, thanks to first half goals from Pablo Mazza and Giorgos Zisopoulos.
Next week’s second leg will take place in Cyprus as UEFA has still deemed Israel too unsafe to host Europen football matches.
