Man charged after shouting ‘Heil Hitler’ and giving Nazi salutes in Stamford Hill
A man has been charged and remanded in custody to appear before the courts after he was seen making Nazi salutes and shouting “Heil Hitler” along a busy road in Stamford Hill.
Officers from Hackney Metropolitan Police made the arrest on Bethune Road on Sunday after volunteers from community security group Shomrim North East London spotted him.
A spokesman for the group said: “We were called about this and responded. We approached the man and spoke to him. He didn’t say much and didn’t appear drunk. Within minutes the police arrived and arrested him.”
The suspect, understood to be a white male in his 30s, was charged with a racially-aggravated public order offence on Tuesday.
In a separate incident, Shomrim volunteers helped police officers “track and arrest a male for racially aggravated threats to kill” along the River Lea towpath on Wednesday.
