Maureen Lipman to star in digital revamp of Martin Sherman play ‘Rose’
Coronation Street star’s performance is described as 'a powerful one-woman tour de force' and will raise money for Age UK, The Fed, and UK Jewish Film
Maureen Lipman is to star in a new digital revival of Martin Sherman’s Olivier-nominated play ‘Rose’ in collaboration with the Hope Mill Theatre.
The Coronation Street star’s performance, which will stream in September for three days only, is described as “a powerful one-woman tour de force” and will raise money for Age UK, The Fed, and UK Jewish Film.
Written in 1979, the play’s online revival – which runs from 10-12 September – is a portrait of a feisty Jewish woman’s survival through some of the most traumatic events that have shaped the last century.
It traces Rose’s story from a tiny Russian village to the devastation of Nazi-ruled Europe, the Warsaw Ghetto, a ship called Exodus, and finally to the boardwalks of Atlantic City and salsa in Miami beach.
The story “sadly remains relevant today with the escalation of racial tensions, and antisemitism dominating the news and comment sections on social media,” said organisers.
