Metro sorry for printing anonymous letter accusing Jews of ‘hating Palestinians’
Apology came after the free sheet printed opinion reacting to Dame Margaret Hodge's criticism of the Labour Party
The Metro newspaper has issued an apology after printing an anonymous letter in Friday’s edition which accused Jewish people of “hating Palestinians”.
The apology came after the free newspaper printed a letter reacting to Dame Margaret Hodge’s criticism of the Labour Party’s handling of Chris Williamson MP.
“Can Dame Margaret explain why every criticism of Israel is considered antisemitic?” it read. “What about the Jewish people’s hatred towards the Palestinians? Why does she not mention that? Why the double standard?”
On Tuesday, a correction and an apology appeared. “A letter in Friday’s Metro wrongly accused Jewish people of being responsible for the actions of the Israeli government,” it read.
“We would like to apologise for any offence this caused. Metro does not endorse racial or religious bigotry of any kind.”
