WEEK 28 TEAM OF THE WEEK

————————–

GOAL OF THE WEEK NOMINATIONS:

1) DANIEL FATTAL (MACCABI LONDON LIONS B)
His goal last week was good, but this was even better. Picking the ball up wide on the left, jinked in and out to beat three defenders, before smashing the ball past the goalkeeper with a stunning 25-yard shot

2) RICHIE CAPLIN (REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE B)
A wonder strike – a 40-yard half-volley which flew into the top left-hand corner, simply unsaveable and probably one of the best goals he will ever score

3) JACOB BRUNNER (ATHLETIC BILBAUM)
The second goal of a hat-trick was a superb curling effort from the edge of the box after he evaded a number of challenges

————————–

SAVE OF THE WEEK NOMINATIONS:

1) JAKE DOFFMAN (NORTH LONDON RAIDERS A)
Punched away Daniel Garfinkle’s stinging 15-yard shot to keep Raiders at a pivotal moment in the game

QUOTE OF THE WEEK NOMINATIONS:

1) ADAM GLEKIN (HENDON UNITED B)
“Many thanks to the referee for blowing the full-time whistle about 10 minutes early and sparing us all from the thunderstorm”.

FIXTURES & RESULTS:
TABLE:

BLIZZARD STORM P OAKWOOD A P (Blizzard Storm withdrew from match)

Oakwood manager Daniel Kristall told jewishnews.co.uk: “It’s disappointing but we’ll take the points and move on.”

————————–

FC TEAM A 6 HARMEN 0
Team ended their season in style as they hit Harmen for six to hand them a loss which also dents their hopes of a top-two finish.

Jeremy Julius scored half of the goals, with Shim BensoorDavid Gance and Yoav Lebens also on target.

Manager Ben Gilbey told jewishnews.co.uk: “A great result today for FC Team, we absolutely played Harmen off the pitch. We went in 3-0 up at half time after controlling the first half and then Harmen went down to 10 men, 10 mins into the second half through injury, both teams only turned up with 11 men.

“The rest of the second half was all Team, and really it could have finished 10,11,12 to Team. Great defensive performance from us as well keeping the clean sheet!

“We’re now up in to sixth, matching our finish last year, which was not the aim at the start of the year, but given how the season has gone, it is pleasing.”

————————–

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS A 4 REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE A 2
Raiders are two wins away from retaining their title after a first half hat-trick from Liron Mannie helped them win the clash of the top-two.

Jordan Marks hit their fourth, while Daniel Garfinkle and Sam Sollosi scored for Redbridge.

Raiders joint-manager Rob Richman told jewishnews.co.uk: “It was a great display and a really good performance. Redbridge, along with Oakwood, are our closest competitors and we have great respect for both sides. Redbridge have a lot of talented players and I am not surprised to see them fighting right at the top of the table. We knew we’d have to be somewhere close to our best today to get a result and our first half performance was really top quality. We moved the ball well, attacked with pace and gave Redbridge so many problems. What was most encouraging was our finishing and in particular Liron Mannie’s was super clinical and that gave us a three goal cushion at half time. We did what we had to do in the second half and came away with a very important three points.

“We’re at the business end of the season where every game is important and we try and perform to the best of our abilities every single week. If we keep performing like we have done then I’m sure the rewards will come but we must remain focused and grounded and then we will see how far that takes us.

“We now don’t have another league game until May. So we will put the league to one side as we face some big cup games in the next three weeks. First up is Lions at Rowley Lane under floodlights and we can’t wait for that game, it promises to be a really good test of our abilities.”

Redbridge manager Jon Jacobs told jewishnews.co.uk: “Raiders are now nailed on for the League and deservedly so. They have quality all over the park and are well drilled by Rob . We gave silly errors at critical times which killed any momentum we may have had. The last few weeks has seen our squad at its thinnest and I think injuries and lack of depth has killed us at a most inopportune time.

“I have no doubt that my strongest team would have given Raiders a good run for their money but am proud of the achievements we have attained this season. We are an exciting and developing side and just need some more depth in the squad to challenge over a sustained period.

“Liron Mannie and Jordan Marks were quality players on the day and offensively, Raiders are very strong, they are a real team and credit to the League.”

DIVISION ONE:

FIXTURES & RESULTS
TABLE

FC TEAM B 1 REDBRIDGE B 3
Redbridge ended their league season on a winning note as goals from Richie Caplin, David Fialka and Brad Gayer saw them dent Team’s promotion hopes.

————————–

WOODFORD WANDERERS 3 BRIXTON OLD BOYS 0
Woodford moved a point clear at the top of the table – with games in hand on their nearest challengers – thanks to this comfortable win.

Tom Alexander, Elliot Gold and a Brixton own goal saw them to the win, with joint-manager Daryl Kay telling jewishnews.co.uk: “It was an awful game in shocking wind and in truth, the result was never in danger.

“As bad as we were, Brixton were worse, and that’s saying something because we were terrible! But we go into the next game against Brady knowing that we’re almost there!

DIVISION TWO:

FIXTURES & TABLES
TABLE

ATHLETIC BILBAUM 3 FC TEAM C 0 (match abandoned at half-time due to injury)
A brilliant first half hat-trick from Jacob Brunner proved to be in vain with the game called off at the break.

Bilbaum’s Benjamin Bell told jewishnews.co.uk: “The match ended after 45 minutes as FC Team C refused to play on without a full XI following the half-time departure of a player to injury. It was such a shame following another impressive and determined Bilbaum performance in difficult conditions.”

————————–

FAITHFOLD C 2 MACCABI LONDON LIONS B 6
The Lions kept up their title challenge as a hat-trick from Charlie Cohen helped them to this win.

Daniel Fattal scored twice, with Sam Shooter also on target. Manager Samuel Marchant told jewishnews.co.uk: “It was a tough game today and Faithfold put up a real fight. We scored our first against the run of play, but this really settled us down and got the wheels in motion.

“It was a physical game out there and we did what was asked of us. Very happy with another victory and we now just move on to next week.”

————————–

HENDON UNITED B 2 L’EQUIPE 2
Sixth hosted fifth and with just a point separating the sides, it was no surprise to see them share the points, as they played out an entertaining game which keeps both teams in mid-table.

Hendon twice took the lead in the game, firstly when Benni Sluckis profited from a scrappy corner although the visitors equalised shortly after against the run of play. Hendon led again early in the second half when Jono Nesbitt instinctively turned in a free-kick, but they were pegged back again and both teams had chances to win the game in the last 20 mins.

Hendon manager Adam Glekin told jewishnews.co.uk: “I’m a bit frustrated as that’s a game we should have won. We were the better team in the first 45 minutes but only came in at half time at 1-1. Even still we could have won the game, but we’ve conceded two really sloppy goals which we afford to keep doing.

“It was a tough game against a big, battling side – their direct football caused us problems and I’m sure they also probably feel they had the chances to win the game. On a separate note, many thanks to the referee for blowing the full-time whistle about 10 minutes early and sparing us all from the thunderstorm”.

Mark Smith and Grant Bates scored for L’Equipe.

————————–

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS C 1 CATFORD & BROMLEY 1
Raiders are up into third (Real Hendon’s result – below – pending) despite being held to a point by the Cats.

Danny Bennaroch equalised late on for the Cats with a thumping header, with player-manager Jeff Gotch telling jewishnews.co.uk: “We were missing 10 regulars missing, only had one substitute and fielded a makeshift back four, yet it was our best display of the season. Yes, we got our equaliser very late, but we bossed the game with Jordan Grant and our very own Cazorla Danny Bennaroch (he’s actually Spanish) running the show. We deserved three points and I’m pretty sure David Domb would agree, Raiders know they got lucky.”

Alex Elf put the Raiders ahead from the penalty spot midway through the first half, with joint-manager David Domb telling jewishnews.co.uk: “You can see why Catford have taken points off everyone at the top this season. They really put up a battle and probably will feel they should have taken more from the game. Jeff has a good group of lads there and we look forward to the return game in a few weeks.

“But we just weren’t at the races. Even when you’re missing a few we should have performed better. But that’s done and moving onto a big week ahead. It’s one we’re all excited about and the spirit is extremely high heading into Hendon next weekend.”

————————–

REAL HENDON 5 BOCA JEWNIORS 0 (game abandoned after 80 minutes due to hail)
Real Hendon were on their way to the three points, when they saw the match abandoned due to hail.

Two goals each from player-manager Chaim Gothold and RA Noe, along with Danny Steel’s strike saw them (seemingly) to the victory.

Gothold told jewishnews.co.uk: “Not sure why the match was abandoned as I wasn’t consulted, but I think common sense will prevail.”

Boca’s Anton Nyman told jewishnews.co.uk: “The players all got the memo about the clocks going forwards, unfortunately the referee didn’t – so the friends and family committee stepped in and played ref for the first half hour.

“It’s a shame we couldn’t restart the game at that point from 2-0 down. The score did us no justice in the howling wind and rain; and silly mistakes cost us dearly. They caught us on the counter-attack on numerous occasions and we couldn’t capitalise on the attacks we had.”
