British editor apologises for Mossad-Paris link article
The editor-in-chief of the International Business Times (IBT) has apologised unreservedly for an article that linked Israeli intelligence service Mossad to the Paris terrorist attack at the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday.
George Pitcher took to Twitter saying: “Story making grossly offensive and unsubstantiated ref to Israeli links to #CharlieHebdo taken down. I apologise unreservedly.”
Yiftah Curiel, press spokesman at the Israeli embassy in London, thanked Pitcher for the “swift handling of this matter”.
Some Twitter users were angry that the article had been re-tweeted over 300 times before it was removed. Others found it “hilarious” that Israel was yet again being accused of being behind terror, with one user pointing to an article carrying an allegation that “ISIS is a Zionist plot”.
Away from the Twitter antics, tens of thousands of people around the world came together in rallies, showing support for the victims by holding placards carrying the words: ‘Je suis Charlie’ (I am Charlie).
