Muslim Labour chair honours Jewish centenarian who escaped Nazis

The chairman of British Muslim Friends of Labour has honoured a Jewish refugee from the Nazis as she celebrated her 100th birthday.
Shokat Ali surprised long-time Labour activist Edith Poulson with flowers and a special card to accompany her traditional greeting from The Queen.
The centenarian, from Walthamstow, fled occupied Europe for the safety of the UK in 1938. She said her secret to a long life was “plenty of aggravation. If you eat sensibly and don’t drink and don’t do anything stupid you should last.”
Ali said: “Edith turning 100 years old is a proud moment for our community in Watham Forest as well as the Labour Party family. She is the oldest member of Waltham Forest Labour and has played a huge role in working to build community cohesion.”
