Labour MP Naz Shah once co-chaired a charity with a Labour councillor who has compared the Israel-Palestinian conflict to the Holocaust.
The Bradford West MP ran the organisation ‘Sharing Voices’ with Mohammad Shabbir, who in a August 2014 tweet wrote: “Every Palestinian who survives the ongoing genocide in Gaza is a holocaust survivor (Holocaust = burnt offering).”
The revelation, highlighted by the website Guido Fawkes, heaps further pressure on the MP, who sits on the Home Affairs Select Committee’s enquiry into anti-Semitism and was forced to step down from her position as aide to shadow chancellor John McDonnell on Tuesday.
Her resignation came following a tweet in which she endorsed relocating Israelis to America.
Shah said she “deeply regretted” the hurt caused by her comments and accepted there was “no excuse” for the offence they caused.
Shabbir has also used the offensive term “Zio” on social media to describe Jews and Zionists, which is often used by neo-Nazis.
Shah has regularly shared and tweeted blogs and posts by the councillor, including one article comparing Israel to Al Qaeda.
Shah resigned as chair of the ‘Sharing Voices’ charity in August 2015.
